Getting Stuck in Traffic

Ethiopian Airlines, noted for its elegance and comfort had just landed in the
city of Addis.   A group of Ethiopians from the US looked at each other as the
plane landed and said to themselves Ethiopia has changed a lot, and that the
shanty towns have now been replaced by tall buildings, which have dominated
the view of lash and mountains.  Their eyes are longing for the old Ethiopia
and they are forcing themselves to adjust to the new.

The moment they hit the ground they were
awestruck by the congested traffic, as they
entered the taxis to head to their homes by
    the old airport.

It is noon.  The Sun graces the city of Addis.
Thousands of cars are visibly congested on
Bole Road in Addis, Ethiopia. Old and new
cars are mingling as they wait for the red
light, as their frustrated drivers are
screaming, as if the streetlights could hear
    them.

    “Move it,”

Says a driver from the US to his immediate neighbor. His neighbor simply
ignores him.  He nods in frustration.

Another driver says,

“ You idiot. Where are your manners? This is Ethiopia, man. Go back to
where you came from. We are patient around here”

He says,

“ Yes. I know your kind. You have been rotting around here all your life. You
have time in your hands, as the country is stuck in the middle ages.

The driver replies,

“ You say we have time in our hands, and we are proud of that, time has
taught us patience, and you and your American ways, have no patience”

He says,

“ Here we ago again, praising yourselves, for your laziness. I grew up hearing
this bull shit…no more”

The annoyed one ignores him and rolls his window up, and turns the radio.

Finally, the traffic had just begun moving.

The narrow streets teemed with vendors aggressively displaying withering
tomatoes, which have been there for several days. Young children are offering
rotten tomatoes for two pennies a pound. A few prostitutes are offering their
services for the night, for $1.
