| Keep on Dreaming! 21 July, 2010 | By Teodros Kiros (Ph.D) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The sun of the horn of Africa is burning the fields. Masses of people are sitting on hot stones, famished grass, with nervous bees circling on their faces, their legs, their hands, and just about every part of their bodies. Patiently the eldest whisk them away with their bare hands. Children crush them with their little hands. Babies cry bitterly not knowing what to do. The younger men are holding on to their guitars, immersed in remembrance. One of them abruptly says, “ May be it is the heat, but I am suddenly struck by rememberance. You see, it has been six years since my brother died on the grounds of the palace, while peacefully protesting our Ethiopian ruling regime” He pauses and his eyes are impregnated with tears. He holds the guitar and sings. We humans We humans We love easily Hate quickly. All the good things that people do Are forgotten too. Luckily there is this lover Which never forgets The lover who remembers the dead Celebrates the present. Oh Yes Oh Yes Music never forgets She remembers every did Every gesture Every place where love has gone Where the dead are buried. The others sing on. They chant . Let us they dream on. Let us remember the 43 students dead on the grounds of the palace Music, remember the dead. Dr. Teodros Kiros, is a Senior Editor at Ethio Quest News. His weekly column appear here |
